Missouri Update

I uploaded a bunch of photos to Facebook from our first few weeks here (that link should work for non-FB users as well).

Also, for those of you not on Facebook, you can see from my user pic that I got a haircut. Bit of transition after 13 years with long hair. It feels like a good change.

Anyway, the move to Missouri has been going really well. The actual move was a bit harrowing since the movers sent one guy to unload a two bedroom set on the Missouri-end of things, but living with Jenni is great. I feel like I'm doing well with the job too, though I think I'm going to be really busy starting in a few weeks.

Can't complain about much right now.

Wow, I haven't updated in a year and a half. I'm such a slacker with this thing.

Well, I've been dating a girl for the last 15 months. I love her dearly.

So, the big news is we're moving to Columbia, Missouri in two months. She's going to be in the Folklore PhD program at Mizzou. I've secured a job as a web designer for the University's Office of Research.

It feels like a pretty big change, since I've always lived in the Washington D.C. area, and I've been at Mason in one respect or another for the last ten years. Should be an adventure if nothing else.

For those of you who can handle the FPS nature of Cloverfield, I highly recommend it. I'm kind of hoping they do an Opposing Force-style sequel to it. Seems like everything reminds me of Half-Life nowadays...

I had a lot of fun at Dremos last night. Saw a lot of familiar faces I wasn't expecting. Damn shame that place is closing.

Sigh.

This isn't getting any easier.

I'll probably expand on this later, but...

Heather and I broke up this evening.

Sort of glad to have some sort of resolution to it at least; the last two months have been hell.

In Short

My moveout has been moved from November to early February. Given my horrible acumen for house-hunting, I'm glad to have the time.

The colder weather and shorter days is starting to kill my exercise routine. I need to get my lazy ass to a gym... and maybe stop eating the box of Hot Tamales sitting on my desk. Heh.

It's looking like I'll have a decent amount of freelance work soon. On Friday, I've got a meeting in Arlington to discuss some consulting for Mason's Law School, and one of Heather's friends wants me to do a site for her. We'll see how that goes.

It's readily apparent I have a very generous family. My birthday gift from them was a 23" Apple Cinema Display. Add that to the Mac Pro I picked up last month, and I've got a pretty sweet rig here.

And Heather did an excellent job treating me this weekend. I've definitely been feeling loved the last few days.

Aside from that, Chris, my other housemate, and I have started looking for a new place to live. I hate this process. And moving is such a total pain in the ass. We'll see how that goes.

Personal Improvements

I've been on a pretty successful health kick the last few weeks. I've replaced my usual (read: ridiculous) intake of soda with water, and I've started running everyday. I'm not sure I feel any better physically from it, but I'm sure it'll pay off in the long run.

Our lease for the townhouse we're living is now on a month-to-month basis until November, and Heather is planning on moving out at that time. Not sure exactly what I'm going to do. I'm sure I'll be weighing options in a few months.

I'm definitely getting a crappy raise at work, and *might* be getting a decent one, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. It would definitely help if I end up having to look for a new place to live.

And, I've finally gotten around to giving my web site portfolio a decent treatment. Until I get tired of it again, at the very least.

Random Bits

My university has been getting a bit of attention lately. I'm not a sports fan, but it's nice to see our team do well.

Saw this great piece of animation before V for Vendetta. Pity it's wasted as an advertisement. V was good, even with its overall glorification of terrorism.

I stop playing WoW about a month ago. I've been slightly more productive on other tasks, but I really need something new. Could not be more bored.

A little appreciation at work.

Sweet, my degree finally arrived:

(And an actual photo from graduation) )

So, *officially*, no more school. I can enjoy having only work as a source of frustration.

Haven’t written in months, but some fairly major things are about to happen with me.

First, In April, Heather and I are moving in together, along with my current housemate, Chris. Obviously, this is a HUGE step forward, relationship-wise. I’m confident we’re ready for it. Besides, we’re going to see to it that we have our own space.

Second, I graduate in May. This will end my SEVENTH year of college. I’ve probably had senioritis for the last three. I’m only taking one class this semester, and it’s COMM 101: Group Communication. It’s definitely an anticlimactic way to finish, but at least I’ll be free.

It's my birthday!

Or rather, it would be if I had written this three days ago. I'm a bit of a slacker. And I'm recovering from Heather's spoiling.

Heather and I are combining our parties, and having it on October 1st at her place (her birthday is on the 3rd). If anyone wants/needs info for that, let me know.

Not a whole lot else going on... work's been busy, as we just redid the main Mason web site again. And I'll be aimlessly wandering around New York next Saturday thanks to some of my more idiotic graduation requirements.

Whoopee.

Been a while...

A couple weeks ago my headaches began growing more intense, so I've re-engaged the medical community to once again try to find out what's wrong with me. I've got an MRI tomorrow, to make sure I don't have cancer.

I'll see 1,000 doctors until this thing is worked out. Given my experiences thus far, it may take that many.

And by Tuesday, I should have a shiny new G5... which is good, since my pc laptop's cooling unit blew a little while ago, and has been sitting dead on my drafting table.

Meh. Things could be better.

Roleplaying

[info]deaghean
On Saturday, Heather and I celebrated our second year anniversary by going to the Marrakesh in DC. It's a Moroccan restaurant. There's a seven course meal, and belly dancing. It's a fun (but expensive) night out.

One of the things they do is celebrate special occasions by bringing out wine with sparklers while they play birthday music or what have you. Unfortunately, Heather failed to specify that it was our dating anniversary and not our wedding anniversary. So we got to awkwardly toast 100 people or so with wedding music playing.

I can think of worse roles to play. And few better.

Anyway, not much going on this week. My housemate got me addicted to FFXI, so I've been even more cavemonkeyish than usual. But it's nice to enjoy what little downtime I've got this summer.

Only I will appreciate this, but...

  • Kinkos - Specifically the one across from Mason. They actually managed to print what I needed, and were semi-nice about it.
  • Bookletizer - Printer spread makin' Xtension for Quark. I've been complaining forever about the fact that Quark didn't have an equivalent to Pagemaker's "Build Booklet" utility. The demo works for 10 days, no strings attached, so I was able to use it for my project. I didn't have to spend an hour figuring out how to manually resort 60 pages into the proper configuration.

Anyway, my senior project is done! The project is basically a book of stories I designed... it kinda looks like crap (the cover stock isn't all that great), but it's done!

I'm free for the next four months! YES!

When I Met You

Man, my memory's bad. Interesting exercise though.

If you're not on the list, then I don't believe I've met you :)

I've been sick again. Essentially it's the same thing I had going back in January. I'm kinda back to the feeling-better-sorta stage of things.

It's very frustrating. I'm constantly low on energy, or lightheaded, and quite frankly, I'm really tired of telling medical professionals what's wrong with me and not jack in return. I'm sure my insurance company must be wondering what the hell I'm doing.

Bah.

More positively, school is over in two weeks, and Heather and I celebrate our two year anniversary on May 1st. *cue the mushy lovey-doveyness*

This is going to take cracker-jack timing, Wang

First, my grandfather is doing ok. He had a mild stroke after the surgery, but is moreorless fine. He was discharged from the hospital not too long ago.

Second, I GOT A NEW CAR!! As I said I was going to, a black 2004 Honda Civic. My old car was a *crappy* 1990 Chevy Corsica. It's almost orgasmic driving it... I have a CD PLAYER!! and a radio that doesn't SUCK! And my change drawer hasn't been ripped out by homeless people.

Ahh, life is good.

My grandfather is in the hospital. He had a heart attack that required quadruple-bypass surgery. He's apparently doing really well, all considered.

Hopefully he'll stay that way.

Everything else is peachy.
